Introducing our Queen elect, Abi Smith

Hi, I’m Abi Smith.
I am currently 11 years old (I will be 12 by Carnival day), and I’m attending St Edward’s Junior High School. My grandma Mal , and my childminder Carol, have been involved with the Cheddleton carnival committee for a long time. When I was born, Grandma said “future Carnival Queen”. I have been in the retinues of two other queens. In 2005-2006 I was in the retinue of Gemma Norman, and in 2009-2010 I was in the retinue of Hannah Rushton. I am very happy to be chosen as the Cheddleton carnival queen for 2010-2011.
My main hobbies and interests are dancing, listening to music and singing. Plus I love animals. I have a pet hamster, and lots of fish. The school subjects I enjoy are Maths, Art, French and Cooking.
I would like to give a big thank you to my retinue, Olivia, Jessica, Leann, Molly, my chief attendant Alice, my flower girl Niamh, and, last but not least, my crown bearer William. I would also like to thank Margaret for making our beautiful dresses and William’s suit. I would like to thank the best childminder in the world Carol for getting us organized, Pat & Nicola Findlow for the use of the float (and all of the extras!), and the Cheddleton carnival committee for helping me with my big event.
And finally I would like to give a HUGE thank you to my family. My mum Vicki for helping me make tricky decisions and sorting everything out, my Auntie Emma for helping me decide on the dresses, and last but DEFINITELY not least my dad Mark and Grandad Russ for being so supportive to me throughout.
Lots of love Abi J
